Dr. Patel is board certified in internal medicine, cardiology and interventional cardiology. He is particularly experienced in monitoring stroke patients for the detection of a patent foramen ovale (PFO). Additionally, Dr. Patel completes more than 1,500 coronary and peripheral diagnostic tests annually, many of which result in coronary and peripheral intervention.
Dr. Patel oversees the Clinical Research Department at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland. He has participated as a principal investigator or co-investigator in over 35 multi-center trials to evaluate new therapies in patients with Heart Failure, Acute Coronary Syndrome, Peripheral Vascular Disease, Atrial Fibrillation, Hyperlipidemia, Diabetes, Stroke, Deep Venous Thrombosis and Pulmonary Embolus. He has co-authored more than 25 medical journal articles and abstracts including articles in Circulation, American Journal of Cardiology and Journal of Interventional Cardiology.
Dr. Patel received his medical degree from the Kastuba Medical College in Karnataka, India. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Rhode Island Hospital. In addition, Dr. Patel completed his clinical fellowship in Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology at the St. Joseph Mercy Oakland in Pontiac, Michigan. Dr. Patel is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology.
